Friday, March 28, 2014 - SIDE STREET STRUTTERS AND MELONEY COLLINS in “SILK STOCKINGS
The Side Street Strutters weave a delicate tapestry of lush ballads, whimsical novelty selections, and powerful, challenging arrangements which showcase the individual artistry of each performer. Together, this energetic and entertaining septet brilliantly captures the essential charm and vibrant energy of Jazz. The Strutter’s vast repertoire includes traditional jazz of New Orleans, featuring the legendary sounds of such artists as Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, and Fats Waller. Popular jazz melodies of Porter, Gershwin, and others are stunningly reworked into brilliant new entities without losing any of their essential charm. Exciting swing sounds of the big band era featuring the music of such famous artists as Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and Count Basie are also featured. The Strutters have appeared at dozens of European and U.S. jazz festivals, and a guest presidential performance — all this, in addition to their regular performances at California's Disneyland.
The Side Street Strutters are proud to present “Shiny Stockings”, a new musical experience showcasing the vocal stylings of Meloney Collins. This charming and talented southern California native joins the Strutters to create a performance which breathes new life into melodies popularized by the great songstresses of the golden age of jazz. Feel the searing rhythms of “Sing, Sing Sing” and “Caravan”, savor the lush harmonies of “Stardust” and “At Last”, and reminisce to “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” and “A Tisket A Tasket”. Collin’s diverse career includes singing with Burt Bacharach, John Tesh, and Julie Andrews, stage productions for the Walt Disney Company, and appearing in the musical presentation of Ray Charles, LIVE! Together, they create a musical theater experience of timeless melodies. As the Duke once wrote; “It Don’t Mean A Thing if it Ain’t Got that Swing.”
