Angela Cheng is a regular guest soloist with virtually every major orchestra in Canada. She has also performed with the Israel Philharmonic and with orchestras throughout the U.S. Praised for her brilliant technique, tonal beauty, and superb musicianship, Canadian pianist Angela Cheng is one of her country’s national treasures.
Alvin Chow has appeared throughout North America and in Asia as an orchestral soloist and recitalist. In addition, he has performed extensively in duo-piano recitals with his wife, Angela Cheng. Alvin Chow received the Victor Herbert Prize in Piano upon graduation from The Juilliard School.
The program will include compositions for one-hand by Scriabin, a Chopin piece for two hands and then on to four-hand repertoire at one piano: The program is designed to showcase the wonderful possibilities of four-hands at a single instrument including the rich expanse of tonal colors (from using the entire expanse of the keyboard). It shows the contrast of the most tender to the most powerful (no coincidence that much of this repertoire has been orchestrated) and the physical intricacies of two performers sharing the same instrument.
